A Post Office Older Than the Town Itself
A Lakeville post office has been running since 1850, but the town's real consolidation came later -- 13 rural one-room schoolhouses across Union Township merged into one two-story elementary school in 1898, and the Old Lakeville High School, built in 1931, is now on the National Register of Historic Places, listed in 1991.
Rural Drainage Feeds Into Town
Union Township's rural drainage patterns, the same ones that once served 13 scattered schoolhouses before 1898, still influence how water moves through Lakeville today -- storm response and snowmelt planning for the town's older homes has to account for field-level drainage as much as any individual house's own gutters and grading.
