Roseland sits in an unusual spot: a compact, narrow town -- about four blocks by a mile -- incorporated in 1916 right where South Bend meets the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College. Dixie Highway, or State Road 933, still runs straight through its center.
Managing Water Along Four Blocks
A town four blocks wide has limited room for water to spread out, and Roseland's narrow lots along State Road 933 -- developed since the 1916 incorporation -- mean stormwater and snowmelt have to be actively managed rather than left to drain across open ground, especially close to the Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College boundary.
